FEAR of the dentist or the cost of treatment has prevented more than a third of people getting their teeth checked in five years, according to new research.
The study found that 8% of Scots have not had a dental check-up because they are worried about the problems the practitioner might find,Belstaff Mojave leather jacket.
Another 7% said they have not been simply because they are frightened of the dentist and 8% said they could not afford it. The same proportion said they had no NHS dentist nearby.
Jason Buglass, managing director of Implantium Network,belstaff men 50 vintage filed jacket, an organisation of UK dentists who offer dental implants, said: “Scottish residents are risking their oral health by not going to the dentist regularly.
“For those avoiding regular check-ups there is an increased risk of dental infections resulting in septicaemia or even heart disease.
“There are courses available to help Britons overcome their fear of the dentist and many practitioners are compassionate to nervous patients and will take extra time to reassure them.
“It is important that the residents of Scotland realise that if they put off treatment they may exacerbate health problems,Belstaff Naima jacket, requiring more extensive, invasive and expensive treatment at a later date.”
The research, for the The Implantium Network, also showed that one in 10 people have not been to the dentist for five years because they have had no problems with their teeth,Belstaff 554 Khaki, while 8% said they forgot to go.

The Implantium Network interviewed a representative sample of 2,048 adults across the UK on March 19-21. The information was weighted to give the Scottish statistics.
