Is The Coming Nasty Weather Going To Catch You Unprepared?

Soon, there are going to be typhoons, tornadoes, floods, lengthy snow storms, extreme winds and all kinds of natural weather destruction! Are you going to be ready when it happens? Will you know when it’s coming when there is no TV weatherman or computer to help you out?

Think about something like this occuring: You’re at work and your wife is also at work across town. Both of your children are at school. Each is in a different school several miles apart. You’re at your desk or on the job somewhere and suddenly, without warning black clouds appear in the sky, in the distance but obviously moving toward you. Within minutes the sun is blocked out and heavy dark grey and black clouds are overhead.

Tremendous gusts of high speed wind blow against your office windows and thunder and lightning begin to occur around you like a bad dream. There is no light to be seen outside. Visibility is lessening and there is no visible horizon. You run to the TV and discover only white snow on all cable channels. They didn’t mention anything about inclement weather when you were watching them before work this morning. You can feel a panic in your gut beginning to present itself.

You run over to your office computer and try to get to the Weather Channel. Your online service is completely out and you cannot get anything. Lightning must have hit the local towers. Oh no! The phone!!

You’re starting to panic a bit. You pick up your cell phone and try to call your wife, across town at work. There’s no connection. The bad thing is that the school that one of your kids attends appears to be getting hit by this storm right now.

In the distance, you can see the dark grey and black clouds indicating heavy rainfall and it may mean hail as well. All around you there is panic and your co-workers are starting to fly out the door toward their cars, some to go home, others to try and rescue their families. They’re in great panic!

You too are feeling more and more panic. You’ve got to find out what’s going on. Why didn’t they mention this possibility on the weather on TV before you left for work this morning? This is serious!

Has this ever happened to you? It has happened to most of us at some time in our lives.

Natural phenomena such as this is often unpredictable to some but very predictable to others who know how to forecast it. It seems like even the weather professionals get confused sometimes. There is a better way for you to be prepare though.

When (not if) this happens, you could very possibly know about beforehand. By knowing what to look for and having the right equipment, you might very likely be able to avoid being unprepared for storms like this.

It’s possible that you may know a local “weather bug.” If you do, you may have noticed his or her weather equipment in their backyard or somewhere at their house. It’s quite possible that this person or persons actually knew that this storm was coming. How is that possible if the TV guys and others didn’t know about it? Well, these local weather hobbiests or “weather afficianados” study weather and weather patterns and use their own weather instruments, along with data from the NWS and often decipher these patterns better than the TV weatherfolks do and often quite accurately.

Weather bugs make the local weather a major part of their lives. They live for it and enjoy forecasting to the hilt. It’s like a game for them. They start out not knowing squat about forecasting and, in a few years, they’re outforecasting the pros. It’s not unusual because they make it an essential part of their lives. They can often tell you what the weather is going to do in their neighborhood 8 to 10 hours in advance. They are prepared for inclement weather. You know the type. They seem to be obsessed, but they just love it.

They include such weather instruments in their arsenal as atomic clocks (yes, it’s a weather instrument), barometers, anemometers and pscychrometers. They certainly employ the basic, old-school tools too like rain gauges, compasses, wind direction and speed indicators and thermometers.

Could you have known about this incredibly heavy storm if you had your own home weather station? Quite possibly. You would have known that the atmospheric conditions were favorable for a storm of these proportions before you left for work this morning, even if all the local weather guys were saying it was just going to rain.

You’d be able to put it all together with NWS data and weather maps and could possibly seen what was coming. You could even have your equipment send you a warning if certain conditions were present. Then you could have called your family and warned them before the phones went out, the cable crashed and the television station was hit by lightning. You could have also warned your neighbors and your co-workers and saved them a lot of trouble and fear.

Does this all sound a little dramatic? It is but it is also very possible. It has happened to lots of people who never saw it coming.

If the idea of becoming an amateur weather forecaster has ever occurred to you, there’s little reason for you to disregard it. Weather bugging is a very cool hobby and there exists no reason why the normal family cannot explore this hobby together. The required weather instruments are within financial reach of most typical families. Each instrument can be acquired separately or, better yet, one can purchase a full home weather station, as a single unit, and put it to work immediately. This is a fascinating and active hobby that can provide tremendous rewards. All the weather education you may need is readily available online and most of it is free. The information can be studied at leisure and put it to use as needed. Get the kids involved and they’ll have a hobby for life.

In no time at all, you will be accurately forecasting the local weather. It will become a challenge for you to predict local weather patterns before the TV guy. Your friends, neighbors and co-workers will be calling you asking for weather forecasts so they can enjoy outdoor activities or stay in. At least you’ll be able to give them a pretty darned accurate idea of what to expect and they’ll make you the go-to guy for local weather. The nice thing is this can save and change lives. If you’ve been thinking about it, go ahead and give it a shot. You’ll love it and you’ll be prepared next time the weather goes foul!

Discover and learn about the various weather instruments that you can use to be prepared for bad weather. Don’t be surprised again!

* Hello. I’m going to read a declaration of war. Within the next 14 days we will attack a symbol of American justice.”- Former Underground Member Bernardine Dohrn

Thirty years ago, with these words, a group of young American radicals announced their intention to overthrow the U.S. government. Fueled by outrage over the Vietnam War and racism in America, they went underground during the 1970s, bombing targets across the country that they felt symbolized “the real violence” that the U.S. government and capitalist power were wreaking throughout the world. From pitched battles with police on Chicago’s city streets, to bombing the U.S. Capitol building, to breaking acid-guru Timonthy Leary out of prison, this carefully organized clandestine network attempted to incite a national revolution, while successfully evading one of the largest FBI manhunts in history.

One of the top documentaries of the year, this award-winning film interweaves extensive archival material with modern-day interviews to explore the incredible story of “The Weather Underground.” As former members reflect candidly about the idealistic passion that drove them to “bring the war home,” they paint a compelling portrait of troubled and revolutionary times, with unexpected and often striking connections to the current world situation.

  1. Why won't this chicken shit "weather underground" show it's true face to the public. Are they scared that once everybody finds out what they stand for that they will go out of business? Companies that hide behind the curtain like this make me sick and the world needs to know about pieces of shit like this company. Why doesn't the government shut down these type of companies that bomb and harass the American public? When a company becomes detrimental to society they should be put out of business and everybody in the company fined, sued or put in prison for their actions. This company is nothing but a white hate group and if it was a black hate group you can bet your ass the government would shut them down.

  2. These are a domestic terrorist group that has attacked and killed people with bombs!! These people were trained and funded by Fidel Kastro in Cuba! Wake up people!! Whitewashing this history is insanity!!

  3. With all due respect, I don't think that those who have commented here any better of an idea as to what "communism" (or socialism) means than did the Weathermen. For a very clear explanation, go here: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/03017609708413415
(if that doesn't work, go here: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/03017609708413415#.UpA4IOKLVFI )

  4. If a tight knit group uses Communal Living it does work, so that makes some people believe that if it were expanded it could also work. I think you point out clearly enough that Communism doesn't work (and can't work) in a larger society. Socialism will always hold its appeal among a large % of the poor in a society where a small group holds 98% of the wealth. It's a basic instinct to 'share' but wealth redistribution hurts the overall economy so there is LESS TO SHARE. Go Libertarian!

  5. Ayers and Dohrn were spoiled rich kids who didn't then and have never as adults lived in the communism they so love to tout. They are quite the traditionalists, wealthy, arrogant…and I say good for them. Whatever. BUT, do not talk down to me as if I were incapable of handling my own life. I want the freedom to screw up, succeed, fall, get up, celebrate and be and do what I dream. I want to make MY OWN WAY in the world and be left alone.

  6. Scientology has tried it and the 'church' is imploding. The human race has been under communism, socialism, monarchies, dictatorships, semi-quasi-progressive-isms up the ass, and although they're tough and demand the best of us, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights offer a freedom never experienced before. Government rule of any kind is never the answer. Limited government–kicking it out of the free market, and humans thrive and prosper and learn and make mistakes and grow. I love America.

  7. With regard to this film about the Weather Underground, what do you think about the perspective that these people were simple "Useful Idiots" who were so smart that they didn't believe they could be misled? One of the things this film omits is that fact that the leadership, including Tom Hayden, and several of the defendants at the Trial of the Chicago 7/8, actually traveled to Cuba and met with North Vietnamese to discuss how to bring the war home to America. Thoughts?

  8. Of course. There are significant and insurmountable obstacles to constructing your scientific model based solely on the observable. So much of advanced thinking, whether in mathematics, chemistry, medicine or even "string theory" are based on theories based on other theories that are embraced, but are otherwise almost completely unprovable. Yet they are accepted as truth today.

  9. Do you think it is significant when people point out that Socrates never actually wrote anything, and that all we really know about him was written by Plato, as if he might have slanted the text to make himself look better?

  10. Aristotle's most significant contribution, which you note, is the foundation he lays for the scientific method (induction). But even induction has its problems in modern epistemology and science, especially when you start getting into discussions about things like uncertainty principle and sub-atomic behavior.

  11. That's tough to say, simply because Plato has had far more philosophical impact than Aristotle. Granted, Aristotle dominated the entire Middle Ages because of Scholasticism, but the philosophical struggle between the rationalist and empiricist traditions was alive and well all the way up into the late Modern era. We still use concepts presented by Plato (such as knowledge being "justified true belief"), but much of Aristotle is studied for its historical significance rather than relevance.

  12. Sargon was before Genghis…by about 3000 years. Sargon: 2215 BC, Genghis: 1160 AD.

  13. Yes, this is, again, the same sort of thing Plato and Socrates championed when they claim that "the law" is what stands even when the threat of force or negative consequence is removed…which goes back to your previous comment about the wise man leading the same life.

  14. 2. For example "Love is a god" would be something like their use, meaning that "god" referred to some sort of predicate property which endured beyond human experience. That's why there's not really any good English equivalent. They didn't believe in gods as persons. They just had stories that personified them as such, again, starting with a specific historical tradition. Before that, something entirely abstract which expressed itself in or through something directly experienced.

  15. 1. The Greek use of "god" doesn't actually refer to beings. They were often personified as such, starting with a tradition to make them seem like historical figures (I forget the name of the guy who started the tradition), but before that "god" didn't refer to a kind of being. It was more like an abstract property. They would've never made a statement like "God is X" or "A god is X," because "god" for them wasn't something directly experienced. They would've worded it "X is a god" (continued)

  16. lol

  17. I agree that true morality and ethical behavior are not fluid. They are static. They must be unchanging. And honest individuals must stand firm against those who would seek to amend them in the name of expediency or a political agenda.

  18. I see the Crusades and the Papal Bulls as related, in that both were a justification for Christian forces of the day to put aside their religious inclination to act mercifully as they were fighting an enemy which could be dehumanized as a "dark skinned other", whether they were the Moors from North Africa, or the natives in the New World. Effectively, these people are an exception to doctrine. Kill them without prejudice and you will still go to heaven. I find it rather sad, actually.

  19. Do you agree that the adoption of Aristotelian logic by Alexander the Great was effectively the end of the reign of the Socratic era, since Socrates believed in the esoteric Truth which could not be seen but could be divined through the Rhetorical Argument, while Plato embraced this idea but augmented it with the observable world, and then Aristotle focused almost completely on that which could be measured?
