The city of Puerto Vallarta has normally been spared by hurricanes and storms, the locals even hypothesize that the Bay in some shape was a natural protecting barrier from these harmful hurricanes, but this wasn’t the case in the year 2002 when Kenna crashed into San Blas and seriously damaged Puerto Vallarta, since then a new hurricane came by very close in 2011, but did not hit the city. So in the last 40 years Vallarta has only once been hit by a hurricane, so you are quite safe when it comes down to tropical storms ruining your holiday in Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta.
December to April, the top holiday maker season, are hot and sunny. Weather in Spring and Autumn offers moderate temperatures. Though precipitation can mess up a day at the beach, tropical storms can be quite a spectacle, rain appears to march across the hills and the sea, and lightning bolts light up the sky. Temperatures reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celcius) during the summer, and the humidity can add to the perception of heat.
In the winter, the climate changes notoriously and temperatures move into the low to mid 80 degrees Fahrenheit (28-30 degrees Celcius), quite good for a stroll along the beach. Night temperatures in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta range all the way from the 60′s to the mid 70′s (19-24 Celcius).
